BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- China will continue to enhance cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to help it promote the sustainable development of global industries, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) announced Monday.

MOC spokesman Shen Danyang made the statement while congratulating China's Vice Finance Minister Li Yong on winning the election of director general of the UNIDO.

Li won a majority of votes from member states of the Development Board of the UNIDO in the first round of voting, and the selection process will conclude with a final decision handed down by the General Conference at a special session on June 28.

Li, born in October 1951, is a senior Chinese economic and financial policy-maker and a member of the central bank's monetary policy committee.
