BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhuanet) -- South Korea’s top envoy to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Cho Tae-yong, has arrived in Beijing for talks with his Chinese counterpart, Wu Dawei. DPRK's nuclear issue will top their agenda.
Cho Tae-yong said, "It has been a while since I last came to China to meet and have talks with my good friend, special envoy Wu Dawei. South Korea and China agree that the DPRK must denuclearize and that we cannot accept it as a nuclear state."
The meeting comes just after South Korea, the US and Japan held a trilateral summit in Washington, where they reaffirmed their joint commitment to denuclearizing the DPRK. Cho is expected to discuss with Wu the agreements reached between the three countries and stress the need for close coordination between Beijing and Moscow on the issue.
Cho and Wu are also expected to touch on the DPRK’s recent proposal to hold talks with related countries. It is Cho’s first visit to Beijing since he was appointed at the end of May as South Korea’s top delegate to the six-party talks on the DPRK’s denuclearization.
