BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Wang Yang and Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission Fan Changlong on Tuesday met with U.S. National Security Adviser Thomas Donilon respectively.
Wang said the upcoming summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama will exert important influence on boosting the long-term sound and steady development of China-U.S. relations and promoting world peace, stability and prosperity.
The Xi-Obama summit is scheduled for June 7-8 in Rancho Mirage, California. It will be the first face-to-face meeting between the presidents of China and the United States since both nations carried out their most recent leadership transitions.
Stressing that economic cooperation constitutes an important part of China-U.S. relations, Wang urged both countries to acquire a deeper understanding of each other's economic development strategies and policies, as well as explore and define future cooperation orientations and key areas.
Wang called on the two countries to step up communication and build a mechanism to effectively control and remove differences, increase macro economic policy coordination and promote world economic recovery and growth.
Donilon said the U.S. places great importance on the upcoming presidential summit.
He said the U.S. would like to work with China to ensure the summit's success.
While meeting with Donilon, Fan said the most important task for the Chinese and U.S. militaries is to carry out the consensus of leaders and build a new type of military relations.
To boost the growth of military relations, Fan called on the defense departments and militaries of the two countries to step up interactions, communication and cooperation.
"A healthy, stable and reliable military-to-military relationship" is an essential part of overall U.S.-China ties, Donilon said at the start of the meeting with Fan.
Donilon called on the two militaries to increase strategic communication and non-traditional security cooperation, make efforts to reduce differences, avoid misunderstanding and misjudgment, and jointly deal with regional security challenges.
Donilon arrived in Beijing on Sunday to prepare for the upcoming Xi-Obama summit.
During his three-day stay in Beijing, Donilon had a series of discussions with Chinese officials on issues ranging from diplomacy to military affairs.
