UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- China supports the work of the subsidiary committees of the U.N. Security Council, namely the Al Qaida Sanctions Committee, the Counter-Terrorism Committee and the 1540 Committee, a Chinese envoy says.
Wang Min, Chinese deputy permanent representative to the U.N., made the statement Wednesday at a meeting of the Security Council, where the chairmen of the three committees gave their briefings.
Wang said that the Counter-Terrorism Committee had done a lot of work in fully implementing relevant Security Council resolutions.
"China supports the committee in taking measures such as holding regional symposium, facilitating technical assistance" Wang said, in order to continue to maintain dialogue with member states and help strengthen their capacity in counter-terrorism.
Wang said China also supports the U.N.'s 1540 Committee's work on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
"China is willing to work with all parties to play an active role in the work of the committee in a joint effort to promote the international non-proliferation process," he said.
Moreover, Wang noted that the Al Qaida Sanctions Committee has continued to enhance its work of updating the sanction list. China supports the committee in carrying forward the periodic review of sanctions list as planned and strengthening its communications with the member states concerned.
"We hope that the member states will actively cooperate with the committee in a joint effort to safeguard the authority and effectiveness of the sanctions regime," he said.
"China is opposed to terrorism in all forms and double standard in countering terrorism," Wang said, "China hopes the international community to step up their cooperation in a joint effort to prevent and combat terrorism."
