A former foreign teacher at a Chinese school who handed himself in to the Beijing authorities was jailed for 12 years for non-recent sexual offenses on Jan 10 in the UK.
Neil Robinson, 47, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court after pleading guilty to a range of charges, including sexual offenses and possession of indecent images of children.
Robinson had previously entered guilty pleas to three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13, one count of making an indecent video of a child and three counts of indecent assault during a hearing in September 2013.
The offenses took place between 1999 and 2002.
Following further police inquiries Robinson was later charged with 25 offenses in relation to making and possessing indecent images of children.
He pleaded guilty to the indecent images offenses during the hearing last Friday.
It is reported that Robinson worked as a foreign teacher at Beijing World Youth Academy in China. Students from the school recognized him after seeing a request for information on his whereabouts on the BBC's website.
The school later acknowledged that Robinson had worked at the school for three years but had left for personal reasons in May 2012.
Following further inquiries and media coverage of the wanted appeal, Robinson handed himself in to the Chinese authorities in Beijing in the early hours of Friday, 26 April, 2013.
Chinese authorities worked closely with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Surrey Police officers over several weeks to arrange for Robinson's return to the UK.
Detective Inspector Becky Molyneux from the Staines Public Protection Unit said to journalists with Beijing Youth Daily: “I welcome today’s lengthy custodial sentence for Neil Robinson.” “I would like to thank the Chinese authorities and a number of other agencies for their assistance and co-operation in our attempts to ensure Robinson was swiftly returned to the UK,” Molyneux added.
