Only fine for intern who cut students

A TEACHING intern won't have to serve 10 days of administrative detention - after he cut the arms of seven kindergarteners with a pair of scissors - because the intern is underage, police said.

The intern was fined 500 yuan (US$81.50) after cutting the children last Thursday because he thought the way they were sitting was disruptive, police said.

One of the seven had a cut requiring two stitches while the others had lesser injuries.

The teacher, surnamed Sun, began his internship on May 24 at the Xinyi Kindergarten.

Police said they were called to the kindergarten on Friday when parents of the injured children went to complain and a dispute broke out with the kindergarten officials.

Most parents of the injured students have received an apology and an undisclosed amount of compensation, police said.
