Pandas in a panda preserve near the epic center of the 7.0 magnitude quake that jolted southwest China on Saturday morning are safe, staff with the reserve said.
About 60 pandas in the Bifengxia panda preserve, which is near Lushan, Ya’an, southwest China’s Sichuan province , are safe, Heng Yi, head of publicity department of Bifengxia panda preserve said. They have not received reports about panda casualties.
The pandas were scared by the quake, but after the appeasing efforts by the staff, their conditions became stable. Supply of foods for pandas can be guaranteed.
The Internet connection and water supply in the preserve were back to normal on Saturday afternoon.
According to Xinhua News Agency, dozens of pandas were moved to Bifengxia from another preserve, Wolong, after its habitat was wrecked by the 2008 quake.
