The quake hit Eryuan County in the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture at 1:41 p.m. Sunday.
Thirty people were injured, including three who received serious injuries.
The quake affected 160,000 people in Eryuan and four neighboring counties, with 21,000 forced to relocate, according to the latest figures.
