Satellite navigation experts on China’s homegrown Beidou system:
• Beidou provides with positioning accuracy of 10 meters
• Beidou: The more widely used, the cheap
• Beidou: 'Booster' of weaponry
China's Beidou navigation system has achieved major breakthroughs in the independent intellectual property right of the chip module, said Wu Hailing, senior engineer with China Satellite Navigation Office, in an interview with People's Daily Online Tuesday.
Wu said that the government has invested heavily on the research, development and manufacturing of chips to improve Beidou's industrial chain. In particular, to make up for the gaps of between China's own independent intellectual property right of chip and its foreign counterpart.
Wu said, "We have grasped some new core technologies after pre-tests and practical applications, which means we have owned China-created chip."
Wu said the chip module of Beidou is now able to be used. Beidou GPS dual-mode chip has been put into use currently.
In the future, Beidou will further improve the cost performance of chip module and adaptation to the mobile Internet terminals. "For example, in the chip and terminal part, Beidou will adapt to the Internet development trend of combining communications, networking, multimedia, entertainment and navigation functions. One chip may achieve multi-functions."
