BEIJING, November 18 (ChinaMil) -- The first joint meteorological and hydrological support drill of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) was held in Beijing, Nanjing and Guangzhou simultaneously on November 15, 2013. The meteorological and hydrological troop units of various services and arms of the PLA jointly observed weather and sea conditions for military operations.
Meteorological and hydrological support is important to seize good opportunities in battles. Against the background of joint operations by various services and arms of the PLA, the drill fully tested meteorological and hydrological organs' capabilities for coordinated support as well as strategic and operational planning.
During the drill, the meteorological and hydrological departments and their troop units of the Nanjing Military Area Command (MAC), the Guangzhou MAC, the Navy, the Air Force and the Second Artillery Force (SAF), the Meteorological and Hydrological Space Weather Station under the General Staff Headquarters (GSH) as well as local meteorological and marine departments exchanged views on such issues as system and mechanism building of joint meteorological and hydrological support, networking of observation and detection, and information resources sharing.
