BEIJING, October 15 (ChinaMil) -- Herve Ladsous, under-secretary-general of the United Nations (UN) who was on an investigation tour in the Peacekeeping Center of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People's Republic of China (PRC), made a video call to the Chinese peacekeeping medical detachment to South Sudan (hereinafter referred to as the detachment) through the telemedicine system of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) at 10:00 on the morning of October 14, 2013, Beijing time.
The detachment reported to Herve Ladsous the work after it was deployed to the mission areas two-odd months ago. Herve Ladsous spoke highly of the work done by the detachment and hoped that members of the detachment can make more contributions in their future routine medical support and local reconstruction work. Finally, Herve Ladsous said "Thank you very much!" in Chinese to the members of the detachment.
The detachment has received and treated more than 500 patients, carried out medical evacuations for four persons/times, given eight lectures on epidemic infectious disease prevention and control for peacekeeping forces from other countries, and conducted disinfection and epidemic prevention for 12 times to date. The detachment's excellent services were fully appreciated by Margaret Carey, principal officer of the Africa Division of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations of the UN, and peacekeeping forces from other countries.
