BEIJING, July 1 (ChinaMil) -- Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and chairman of the China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS), met with Zbigniew Brzezinski, who served as United States national security advisor to President Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981, on the afternoon of June 29, 2013 in Beijing.
Qi Jianguo said that the heads of state of China and the U.S. recently held a historic meeting, and the two sides affirmed that they would make joint efforts to establish a new-type relationship between the two great powers based on the principle of mutual respect and win-win cooperation. The two sides are supposed to make joint efforts to transform the important consensus reached by the heads of the two countries into specific policies and practical actions between the two countries and the two militaries.
Brzezinski said that the U.S.-China relations are of vital importance for world peace and stability, and the two sides are supposed to step up comprehensive and effective cooperation on bilateral and international issues.
