BEIJING, July 1 (ChinaMil) -- The 2013 Seminar on International Security featuring the theme of "a changing world and the safeguard of international security" was held at the College of Defense Studies of the National Defense University (NDU) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on June 28, 2013.
Leaders from the leading organs of the PLA general headquarters/departments, specially invited military and civilian experts, senior military officers from 80-odd countries around the world, and some ambassadors to China attended the seminar.
During the seminar, 16 Chinese and foreign military officers as well as military and civilian scholars delivered speeches on such specific topics as "new challenges to international security", "hot issues and regional security", "ways to safeguard international security", and others.
After going through candid and in-depth discussions and exchanges, attendees proposed that: It requires new thinking to respond to the changing situation in international security; building new nation-to-nation relations is imperative to the safeguard of international security; it demands deepened international cooperation to handle common security threats; and the military should assume an important role in the safeguard of international security.
Lan Zhitao, dean of the College of Defense Studies of the NDU expressed in his academic conclusion that it is hoped that friends from various countries will make new contributions to promoting world peace and stability, realizing the common development of all countries, and pushing forward the establishment of a harmonious world of long-lasting peace and common prosperity.
