BEIJING, June 5, (ChinaMil) -- Fang Fenghui, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks with Jeong Seung-jo, the visiting chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Korea (ROK), on the afternoon of June 4, 2013 in Beijing.
Fang Fenghui said that China and the ROK share broad common interests. The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the ROK side to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in such fields as high-level military contact, military education exchange, mutual drill-and-training observation, United Nations peacekeeping and naval escort operation on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, so as to push forward in-depth development of the relations between the Chinese and the ROK militaries.
The parties involved should stick to the goal of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, adhere to safeguarding peace and stability of the peninsular, and persist in resolving disputes and conflicts through dialogues and consultations.
Jeong Seung-jo said that the two sides held in-depth dialogues on the cooperation between the two militaries during the visit to China. The ROK side expects to deepen its relations with the Chinese military and jointly safeguard the peace and stability of the peninsular.
Before the talks, Fang Fenghui held a welcome ceremony for Jeong Seung-jo. This is Jeong Seung-jo's first visit to China since he took office as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the ROK Armed Forces.
