BEIJING, May 13, (ChinaMil) -- The Wau Base of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) held a ceremony in the barracks of the Chinese peacekeeping medical detachment to South Sudan on the morning of May 10, 2013 to commemorate the 102nd anniversary of the International Nurses' Day (IND) and present six nurses of the detachment including Zou Yuzheng with the "Special Contribution Award for Nursing" to commend their contributions.
The "Special Contribution Award for Nursing" is the first-ever award the UNMISS has set up since its foundation, and is also a great honour for nurses.
It is learnt that since its arrival at the mission area in November 2012, the Chinese peacekeeping medical detachment to South Sudan has received 900-odd patients/times and treated and cured 40-plus severely wounded persons/times successively.
Besides routine nursing work, the six female nurses have also participated in urgent, difficult, dangerous and important tasks, such as delivering children for local pregnant women suffering from dystocia, providing cross-border escort for seriously-ill patients and actively rescuing patients with gunshot wounds.
