BEIJING, Feb. 17 -- Chinese top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng met in Beijing on Monday with a delegation from the Senate of Spain headed by its vice-president, Juan Jose Lucas.
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said China and Spain have enjoyed sound momentum in the growth of bilateral relations since they established diplomatic ties more than 40 years ago.
Yu said the two sides should adopt a strategic and long-term view on bilateral relations and enhance mutual trust.
Yu said the two countries should explore the potential of trade and expand economic cooperation. He said the two sides should also enrich the content of cultural and people-to-people exchanges to strengthen public support for their friendship.
Yu said the CPPCC has already established a sound cooperative relationship with the Senate of Spain. He expressed the hope that the two sides would further step up exchanges at all levels, learn from each other's experience in political consultation, and enhance mutual understanding and common ground.
Yu said he hopes that the CPPCC and the Spanish Senate will jointly play a constructive role in expanding the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Lucas said the Spanish government and people cherish friendly feelings toward China. He said Spain is ready to respect the core interests and major concerns of China and deepen bilateral cooperation in all areas.
