BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese official Liu Yunshan on Saturday stressed the need to bolster core socialist values and create upward social atmosphere.

When delivering a speech at a symposium on core socialist values, Liu said the promotion of core socialist values will serve the need to carry forward Chinese people's common ideals and make the nation "ideologically and spiritually stronger."

Core socialist values include national goals of prosperity, democracy, civility, and harmony; social goals of freedom, equality, justice and the rule of law; and individual values of patriotism, dedication, integrity, and friendship.

Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China(CPC) Central Committee, said core socialist values should be incorporated into school curriculum as well as into family and social education.

The official asked CPC members and officials to take the lead in practicing core socialist values.

The promotion of core socialist values will become an important factor in the evaluation of officials' achievements, he said.
