BEIJING, Dec. 13 -- China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) has begun a year of campaign for better law enforcement and an end to undesirable workstyles, an SPP source said on Friday.

The campaign will clear up case backlogs, crack down on unprofessional activity, devise a new system to ensure that commutation of sentences is appropriate, protect the interests of migrant workers and reform the petition system.

The SPP will also reduce red tape, regulate the use of public funds and cut extravagance.

The SPP move is part of a wider campaign to stamp out unnecessary bureaucracy, formalism and lavish spending of public funds, launched by the Communist Party of China (CPC) in November of last year.

Since the election of the new CPC leadership one year ago, a number of guidelines have been introduced asking CPC officials to reduce pomp, ceremony, bureaucratic visits and meetings.
