YINCHUAN, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Liu Hui was appointed acting chairwoman of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on Tuesday.

The appointment was made at a meeting of the standing committee of the regional people's congress, the local legislative body.

The resignation of former chairman Wang Zhengwei was also approved at the meeting.

Liu, born in December 1959, is an ethnic Hui. She had served as the deputy chairwoman of Ningxia for 10 years. She was also appointed deputy secretary of Ningxia's regional committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) earlier this month.

Li Jianhua was appointed secretary of Ningxia's regional committee of the CPC on March 19, replacing Zhang Yi.

Wang Zhengwei was appointed minister in charge of the state ethnic affairs commission during the annual session of the national legislature in mid-March.
