People's Secretary, a traditional Chinese local opera, kicked off the 10th China Art Festival in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong Province on Friday night.
The opera, an original work by Chinese artists specialized in Lvju opera of Shandong, manifested the essence of Chinese people's aspiration for prosperity, reform and opening up by staging a local official's life story.
People's Secretary is one of the nearly 100 operas, dances, musical dramas, plays, and puppet shows that will be staged one after another during the art festival and compete for the 14th Wenhua Award to be announced before the program's close.
The festival, running until Oct. 26, will feature nearly 2,000 performances, including symphony orchestras, dances, musicals, operas, and ballets from home and abroad.
During the festival, about 150 paintings and artifact exhibitions will be held. Local people will be able to enjoy the famous self-portrait of Leonardo da Vinci and the best works from painters across China.
As the most comprehensive high-end art event in China, the China Art Festival has played an important role in spreading Chinese culture and enriching people's cultural life.
The 10th China Art Festival, hosted by the Ministry of Culture and the provincial government of Shandong, aims at developing advanced culture, boosting arts and literature and promoting the progress of civilization.
