BEIJING, Sept. 14 -- Chinese celebrities, singer Faye Wong and actor Li Yapeng, are no longer a couple. Both took to their respective microblogs yesterday to announce the end of their eight years of marriage.
“Our relationship as a couple ends here. I’m OK. You, take care,” Wong said in a post on her Weibo account at about 7:30pm yesterday.
Li confirmed the split in his own microblog at 8:07pm, saying: “I need a family, but you are destined to be a legend. I miss all the best times of the past decade. I still love you as I have always been, but I’m sorry that letting it go is the only thing I can do now.”
It is second divorce for the Beijing-based pop diva Wong.
Li also mentioned in his post that their daughter, Li Yan, will live with him.
He added that since both of them are financially independent, they won’t have problems like splitting of properties.
State broadcaster CCTV said on its official Weibo account that Li and Wong went through the divorce procedure yesterday in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, where Li was born. They took a flight from Beijing to Urumqi at 7:35am yesterday morning.
Their respective business managers did not comment on their separation.
Wong, 44, and Li, 42, were married in 2005.
Wong hit the spotlight in 2010 after a very successful concert tour. Li is an accomplished actor.
Their daughter was born with a cleft lip and palate in 2006, following which they set up the Smile Angel Foundation to help children born with the birth defect. The foundation will not be affected by their divorce.
Although Wong and Li kept a low profile after their marriage, they often posted sweet words and pictures on their Weibo.
Rumors has it that Wong, a devote Buddhist, was troubled by Li’s wayward ways, running up bills at night clubs which he paid with his credit cards.
Wong was previously married to singer Dou Wei. Their marriage, which ended in 1999, lasted three years. They have a 16-year-old daughter.
