UNESCO to consider inscription of new heritage sites

PHNOM PENH, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The UNESCO's World Heritage Committee will begin considering inscription of new sites onto the World Heritage List on Friday, UNESCO spokesman Roni Amelan said Thursday.

"The inscription consideration will start with natural properties, followed by mixed and cultural sites," he told Xinhua.

Thirty-one sites are expected to be examined.

Among them are two Chinese properties. One is Xinjiang Tianshan natural site and the other is Cultural Landscape of Honghe Hani Rice Terraces, according to the UNESCO's document.

The UNESCO has so far added 962 properties with "outstanding universal value" to the World Heritage List.

The World Heritage Committee is currently holding its 37th session in Phnom Penh. The session will close in Angkor on June 27.
