A Collection of 87 oil masterpieces at the China Art Museum in Shanghai will give a visual feast to classical art lovers.
"Millet, Courbet and French Naturalism: Collections of the Musee d'Orsay" is a product of the eventful French art between the late 19th and early 20th century.
It also features notable names such as Corot, Bonheur, Lepage, Roll, Renoir, and the Barbizon painters.
The paintings, which reveal the interplay between art and nature, and between art and societal changes, is part of the 14th China Shanghai International Arts Festival. It is being held in the 17th Exhibition Hall at the museum from November 16 to February 28.
It's the first big overseas exhibition since the China Art Museum opened in October in the former China Pavilion of the World Expo 2010. Tickets are priced at 20 yuan (US$3.20).
One of the highlights is a painting by Millet named "Spring," depicting a rainbow over a vast orchard and an intense light that bathes everything in warmth.
The Musee d'Orsay in Paris has a long history of working with Chinese museums.
Early in 1978, the Musee d'Orsay in Paris and other 48 French art museums brought to China an exhibit on 19th century French landscape paintings. In 2004, 51 oil paintings on loan from Musee d'Orsay were exhibited at Shanghai Art Museum, attracting many visitors.
The exhibition - "Millet, Courbet and French Naturalism: Collections of the Musee d'Orsay" - also features such notable names in the art world as Corot, Bonheur, Lepage, Roll, Renoir, and the Barbizon painters.The exhibition held in the 17th Exhibition Hall at the museum will run through February 28.
