SOCHI, March 15 -- China could learn good lessons from Sochi when bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Philip Craven said Saturday.

Craven, during an exclusive interview with Xinhua, said the Sochi 2014 Committee's excellent pre-game planning, efficient execution of the planning as well as the well-organized operation are all good lessons China could learn from in its bidding.

Meanwhile, the Russian organizers' flexibility and their great capacity for quick-learning also make its cooperation with the IPC smooth and effective, he noted.

As for possible advantages China reserves comparing with other competitors in the bidding, Craven believed the successful hosting of the Beijing Summer Olympics and the Paralympics helped it gaining precious experiences.

Craven recalled that China had fulfilled its promise of making the two Games of equal splendor in 2008. "I think it's important to have that mentality in their minds," he noted.

Meanwhile, Chinese people have showed their passion for sports, especially the support for the Paralympic sports, Craven said.

The IPC has maintained good relations with China, and the governing body of the Paralympic movement is also looking forward to working with the bidding city of Beijing. "We are looking into what you are proposing and support it," he added.

Compared with developing a barrier-free environment for people with impairment, Craven said having barrier-free mind matters more.

"The greatest change is the transformation of perceptions from negative to positive, and that only happened when the athletes are competing and when the spectators and television viewers are watching," he said.

In the ten-day competition of the Sochi Games, the Paralympians demonstrated that they could do anything they wish to do, not what people can't do. The positive trend will continue in the country as the development of barrier-free environment and barrier-free mind are left as legacy of Russia, Craven said.

According to the IPC chief, Sochi delivered a "tremendous" Paralaymic Winter Games with record-breaking 316,000 tickets being sold out. The audience, as in the Beijing and London Games, also showed great support to all the athletes from all the nations, he noted.

The transformation of perceptions like this makes the minds free, and with such open mind, "you can think about so many different things in different ways," Craven concluded.
