The German then headed here to the Capital, paying a visit to Beijing which, alongside Zhangjikou, is bidding to host the 2022 Winter Games.
The iconic Bird’s Nest stadium, which was part of a successful 2008 Summer Games, would most likely be used to host the opening and closing ceremonies if the capital is chosen as host. According to the Chinese Olympic Committee, Beijing would stage the ice events while Zhangjiakou, reknowned here in China for its excellent ski resorts, will host the snow events.
The IOC Executive Board will review the bids next July and vote to determine the finalists. The host city will be elected in July 2015 at the 127th IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur.
