SHANGHAI, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Mark Webber, who originally qualified 14th on Saturday and later fined to start from the back of the grid, will start Sunday's China Grand Prix from the pit lane after being handed a further penalty for changing gear box, gear ratios and suspension set up.
The FIA stewards received a report from the technical delegate that the Australian driver's Renault RB9 has changed its gear box before five consecutive events have expired and the gear ratios, suspension settings have been changed during Saturday's Parc Feme, and then determined a breach of the regulations has been committed by Webber and imposed the penalty.
"The gearbox has been replaced with the approval of the FIA technical delegate following a written request from the team concerned...But this gearbox change was before the five consecutive events expred," read the report by the FIA Formula 1 Technical Delegate. "Further the new gearbox has different ratios fitted than declared Friday after P2 (the second free practice). Also changes to the suspension setup are made."
Earlier before Sunday noon, Webber had been fined to start from the back of the grid at the race of the third round of this season's Formula One world championship here at Shanghai International Circuit for failing to provide a one-liter fuel sample after Saturday's qualifying session.
