Liquor producer Kweichow Moutai Co suspended trading of its shares in Shanghai Monday, after a test report on a contaminated sample of the liquor was made public.
The company also issued a statement later Monday, denying the claims. The statement included photos of test reports conducted by three different testing organizations, including China National Center for Food Quality Supervision and Testing.
In the test reports, the bottles of Kweichow Moutai sent by the company were not found to contain plasticizers.
The company suspended trading of its shares after an Internet user named shui jing huang released a test result late on Sunday by an unnamed Hong Kong testing agency, which found that a sample of the company's liquor contained excessive amounts of DEHP plasticizer, a chemical that may harm human immune and reproductive systems.
According to the test report shui jing huang posted on blog.sina.com.cn, the amount of DEHP in that bottle of Kweichow Moutai liquor was found to be 3.3 milligrams per liter, about 140 percent higher than the national standard.
Within three hours, Kweichow Moutai filed a trade suspension statement for Monday to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and said it would release a statement. But trading is set to resume Tuesday.
On November 29, shui jing huang wrote on his blog that he had sent a bottle of Kweichow Moutai to be tested for possible plasticizer content.
Shares in the company declined slightly until Friday last week, when the company stated that it "does not add any additives during the production process."
