China's energy consumption boom

China's rapid economic growth has been mirrored by massive increases in energy consumption. Over the past 30 years China has gradually become one of the largest energy consumers in the world.

There has been a large increase of energy demand from hydroelectricity, nuclear power, gas, oil and coal.

The country has built thousands of new power stations to help fuel its transformation into the world’s second biggest economy. But this has also been accompanied by major environmental impact as well.
