BRUSSELS, May 14 -- The European Commission on Wednesday published new negotiating positions in five topics in regard to the current transatlantic trade and investment partnership (TTIP) talks with the United States.
The papers released include proposals for enhancing the compatibility of each other's existing rules and regulations, and working more closely together in setting them in future in five sectors including chemicals, cosmetics, pharmaceutical products, motor vehicles and textiles and clothing.
In cosmetics, the paper proposes working together to recognise each others' lists of permitted or banned substances and good manufacturing practices (GMPs).
"This follows publication in July 2013 of our initial positions and is part of our efforts to be fully transparent about the negotiations," an European Union (EU) statement said.
The fourth round of TTIP negotiations concluded in Brussels in March this year. The week-long negotiations discussed all three pillars of a future agreement including market access, regulatory aspects and rules.
EU and U.S. chief negotiators agreed to hold a further round of talks in Washington before the summer.
