ATHENS, March 13 -- A suspicious package discovered at a central Athens metro station on Thursday was proven a false alarm, Greek police said.

The Victoria station was briefly evacuated when a counter-terrorism squad was investigating the package.

The bomb scare came as local urban guerilla groups have threatened attacks in recent months.
