BRUSSELS, Feb. 20 -- Foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) on Thursday agreed to adopt sanctions against Ukraine, including asset freezes, visa bans and ban on exporting anti-riot equipments, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said.

Ashton told a press conference following the meeting that the violence in Ukraine should be ended immediately and any further escalation should be avoided, saying "those were responsible for human rights violations should be brought to justice."

The EU did not publish a blacklist, but Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino told media that all the restrictive measures will be imposed rapidly "in the next hours."

EU sources told Xinhua that nearly all member states' foreign ministers agreed on the sanctions on Ukraine. The EU Foreign Affairs Council also made a decision to supply emergency medical aids to the violence-mired country.

"Where is the EU's logic?" Ashton was asked by a journalist about the EU's policies towards violence happened in Kiev and Sarajevo - sanctions against Ukraine and proved rapidly force responds of the Bosnia and Herzegovina government.

Ashton complained the question as a "quite long speech" and refuted that any government should be the prime body in protecting their people in any conditions.

She said that the EU is still trying to find a political solution to stop the violence in Ukraine, and the EU's association offer to the country is still on the table.

At least seven people were killed in clashes in central Kiev on Thursday morning, bringing the death toll of the three-day violence to 35, said the Ukrainian Health Ministry.

Protests began in November in the country when the government backtracked on a trade deal with the EU.
