JERUSALEM, Jan. 14 -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met on Monday night with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, who attended the funeral of late Premier Ariel Sharon.
According to Israeli media reports, the meeting revolved around two topics: the peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians and the diplomatic efforts to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Biden said that U.S President Barack Obama fully supports Secretary of State John Kerry's initiative to reach an agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.
Obama "made it clear that the United States places extreme high value on reaching an agreement that produces two states, but also just underscoring how important Israel's security requirements are for us," the Ha'aretz daily quoted the U.S. official as saying.
The official added that Biden did not get into details of the ongoing peace talks, but talked in more general terms.
"They talked about how Netanyahu views a possible future, both the long term future involving a two state solution and the more immediate one of how to advance a deal," the official added.
In addition, Israel Radio reported that Biden assured Netanyahu that Washington is committed to enforce the remaining sanctions on Iran which were not lifted amid the interim agreement between the P5+1 countries and Iran.
