BANGKOK, Oct. 22 -- The Thai cabinet on Tuesday approved a draft proposal to lift entry visa for Thai and Myanmar citizens, making short-term visits by air.
The visa-free plan will cover only travelers from the two countries using 23 designated Thai airports, including Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hat Yai and Phuket. Their stay should not exceed 14 days.
The plan does not include traveler passing through land border checkpoints.
Government Spokesman Teerat Ratanasevi said the draft agreement, proposed by the foreign ministry, would be presented for signing when Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra visits Myanmar in December.
Yingluck will visit Myanmar on Dec. 11 and 12 to attend the opening ceremony of the Southeast Asian Games.
Currently, Thai tourists have to apply for a visa to enter Myanmar, which allows them to stay up to 28 days.
