Albania to support U.S., NATO action in Syria

TIRANA, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Albania said in an announcement on Sunday that Albania will support any U.S. and NATO action to put an end to massacres in Syria.

"Following the situation in Syria with concern, Albania, as a NATO member, is ready to politically support the U.S. and NATO in any action needed to be undertaken to put an end to the massacre of Syrian population and to support the Syrian opposition in building a free and democratic Syria," said MFA.

Meanwhile, in the southern city Vlora, about 3000 British troops, mostly commando and navy forces, as well as a group of 35 militaries from Dutch Armed Forces are participating in a training operation in framework of "Albanian Lion 2013" joint exercise.

Geography of "Albanian Lion 2013" joint exercise is expanded in a wide territory from training region of Biza to Pashaliman, Kucove, Karaburun and Sazan Isle.

Albanian armed forces will also participate in these operations with troops and means of Navy Forces and Ground Forces.

Albania joined the NATO in 2009.
