CAIRO, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- An Egyptian ironsmith has been arrested Thursday for making "shields" for supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in their sit-ins in Cairo and Giza, official news agency MENA reported.
The 22-year-old smith said that two metal store owners brought him 200 small metal sheets and had a deal with him to manufacture shields to be used by Morsi's loyalists in the sit-ins at Rabia al- Adawiya Square in Cairo Nahda Square near Cairo University in Giza.
When the two metal store owners were questioned, they confessed that a wealthy man, owner of a seedling company, asked them for the shields in return for money.
Morsi's supporters have staged a massive open-ended sit-in since June 28, a few days before the popular-backed military ouster of the Islamist president on July 3.
On Wednesday, the cabinet assigned the interior minister to take necessary procedures to end the Islamist sit-ins and deal with any threats undermining the country's national security.
