Turkish, Iranian ministers to discuss crises in Egypt, Syria

ANKARA, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi are expected to discuss the latest developments in Egypt and Syria on Friday.

Upon arriving at International Esenboga Airport in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Friday afternoon, Salehi told reporters that Egyptian people would decide their own future.

It will be the first meeting between the two ministers since Iran's moderate cleric Hassan Rouhani was elected president in June.

Bilateral relations and the crises in Syria and in Egypt were expected to be major topics of the meeting, a Turkish diplomat told Xinhua.

Tehran was one of the few countries, like Turkey, that has criticized the Egyptian military for ousting the country's first democratically elected President Mohamed Morsi last week.

However, Turkey and Iran fell apart on their policies for the Syrian crisis, as Iran backs Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but Turkey opposes Assad's rule.
