MANILA, July 8 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) resumed formal talks in Malaysia on Monday to continue discussions on the three remaining annexes of the framework agreement on the Bangsamoro.
"The Philippine government and the MILF peace panels resume negotiation on the annexes almost three months after the last round of talks," the Office of the Philippine Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process said.
The three remaining annexes include wealth-sharing, power- sharing and normalization. Only one annex on the transitional arrangements and modalities has been signed.
Deputy presidential spokeswoman Abigail Valte said Monday that the Aquino government is confident that peace negotiations with the MILF would not be hampered by the latest clash in Mindanao between government troops and the breakaway Muslim group, Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, which led to more than 80 deaths. The attack came days before the resumption of the government-MILF peace talks in Kuala Lumpur.
Valte said the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process believes that there are enough security mechanism in place including the presence of the Ad Hoc Joint Action Group (AHJAG) and Committee on Cessation of Hostilities (CCH) to help keep the ceasefire between the government and the MILF.
