CARACAS, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro Sunday urged right-wing groups not to seek restoring capitalism in the country, the state-run Venezuelan News Agency (AVN) said.
Maduro's caution came in the wake of the latest political scandal involving the conservative opposition. "They believe the time has come to restore capitalism, restore the Fourth Estate," he said.
This week, a five-minute recording came to light in which conservative parliamentarian Maria Corina Machado could be heard lamenting the failure to carry out a coup against the current socialist government.
Machado also revealed that the secretary general of the right-wing MUD coalition, Ramon Guillermo Aveledo, told the U.S. State Department that "the only way to get out of this is to provoke a crisis, a coup d'etat."
Speaking at a ceremony marking the promotion of military troops in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, Maduro said the conservatives "in their world of conspiracy, are sending a very clear message threatening the peace and stability of the country."
Aveledo was a founder of the old pro-business Copei Party, which ruled Venezuela for decades.
"He was part of those mafia groups that plundered this country," Maduro said.
