SHIBERGHAN, Afghanistan, June 17 (Xinhua) -- An armed clash took place near the house of the provincial governor in northern Afghan province of Jawzjan on Monday, leaving no casualties, authorities said.
"An armed group arrived near the governor residence and following their arrival firing took place between the gunmen and the governors security guards," a provincial security official told Xinhua.
He said the gunmen were belonging to General Dostom, a former army general but the exchange of fire lasting for a while caused no casualties.
Mohammad Halim Sahi, the provincial governor, told Xinhua that the police started an investigation into the incident and details will be released to the media later Monday.
The motive behind the clash is not known at the moment. General Dostom is also leading a political party -- the Islamic Movement of Afghanistan.
Any kind of blast or firing cause panic among the war-weary Afghans as Taliban insurgent group intensified their attack on government interest since they launched annual offensive in late April this year.
On May 11, up to 17 civilians were killed and 50 others wounded when a suicide car bombing went off near the Afghan Supreme Court in Kabul in the attack which claimed by the Taliban.
