SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, May 15 (Xinhua) -- A decline in militancy related violence has been recorded in Indian- controlled Kashmir, the local government said Wednesday.
The information was given by the region's junior minister for home to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during a recent meeting.
"It was stated in the brief presented in the meeting that there has been decline in percentage of militancy related violence by 36 percent during the year 2012 as compared to the year 2011," a government spokesman said.
A guerrilla war is going on between militants and Indian troops stationed in the region since 1989.
Militants target Indian troops and policemen besides engaging them in gunfights across Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Officials said they have also removed some bunkers built by Indian troops in Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian- controlled Kashmir.
"As many as 54 static bunkers have been removed in public places in Srinagar," the spokesman said.
