More international condolences offered to quake-stricken China

BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- More foreign leaders have sent condolences to the Chinese government after the deadly earthquake rocked the country's southwestern Sichuan province on April 20.

Since April 27, leaders who have sent condolences include Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba, Sierre Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma, Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, Chadian President Idriss Deby, Cape Verdean President Jorge Carlos Fonseca, Senegalese President Macky Sall, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Acting Prime Minister of East Timor Fernando Lasama de Araujo.

Those offering sympathies also included Valentina Matviyenko, chairwoman of Russia's Federation Council; Vazgen Manukyan, chairman of Armenia's Public Council; Anatoly Rubinov, chairman of Belarusian House of Republics; Vladimir Andreichenko, chairman of Belarusian House of Representatives; Serbian Parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic; Czech Senate Speaker Milan Stech and Eamon Gilmore, Irish deputy prime minister and minister for foreign affairs and trade.

Meanwhile, foreign ministers of Gabon, Serbia, Macedonia, Romania, The Netherlands and Iran also offered their sympathies. Condolences also flew in from Rwanda, Madagascar, Suriname and Andorra.

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Lushan County of China's Sichuan province on April 20, leaving 196 people dead and 11,470 others injured, according to latest figures. Twenty-one people remain missing.
