DAR ES SALAAM, March 29 (Xinhua) -- A 16-storey building on Friday morning collapsed in downtown of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with more than 60 people got trapped in the debris.
No casualties have been reported as of noon local time as rescuers were excavating the remaining of the building and searching for survivors, a Xinhua journalist at the site said.
There were more than 60 people inside the building when it suddenly fell apart. Bulldozers were sent to the site and operated to remove the remaining.
"We heard someone inside the debris call for help and work hard to save the survivors, " a rescuer told Xinhua.
The adjacent street were cut off due to the falling parts of the building, witnesses said.
The building under construction belongs to Tanzania National Housing Corporation, with Lucky Construction Limited as its main contractor.
