RABAT, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Morocco has donated 4 million U.S. dollars to help alleviate the suffering of Syrian refugees, official media reported Wednesday.
This additional contribution made by Morocco, which has received thousands of Syrian refugees, will support international efforts to help the Syrian people, the Aloula TV quoted Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani as saying.
It's very important to accelerate political solution as a way to overcome the crisis in Syria, El Otmani said.
The Syrian conflict which began in March 2011 has killed more than 60,000 people and left 4 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN.
Last August, Morocco set up a multidisciplinary field hospital near the Syrian-Jordanian border and sent food aid and logistics to Syrian refugees in Jordan and Turkey.
The International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria was held Wednesday in Kuwait, at which donor countries pledged over 1 billion dollars in aid to Syria.
