YANGON, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Central Peace-Making Work Committee of the Myanmar government has invited the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), the mother organization of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), to resume peace talks, official media reported Sunday.
The letter of invitation for the talks was sent to KIO Chairman U Zaung Haya on Saturday.
The peace offer came after the Lower House of the parliament was proposed on Jan. 11 to publicize the electronic online negotiation in a transparent manner while both sides find it difficult to enter negotiation at table for ongoing armed conflicts in Kachin state.
Subsequently, the Lower House approved on Friday another important proposal urging the government forces and the KIA to immediately stop fighting in the Kachin state and hold peace talks at once for the realization of domestic peace.
As a follow-up on Friday, Myanmar government announced unilateral ceasefire with the KIA, saying that the government troops will stop military offensive against the area of Lajayan starting Saturday (Jan 19) at 06:00 a.m. (local time).
