A total of 10.65 million train trips were made by Chinese travellers on Thursday, the first day of the three-day Labor Day holiday, according to China's railway authorities on Friday.
The figure is 19.9 percent higher year on year and is a record high, according to the authorities.
These trips were made by 4,813 trains, including 346 temporary ones.
Train trips are expected to hit 8 million on Friday, the second day of the holiday. Traffic will be less busy on Friday than Thursday and 306 temporary trains are expected to be added, according to the authorities.
