SUVA, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Fiji's national carrier Air Pacific announced Thursday that from the day on, it would take to the skies as Fiji Airways, a move aimed at attracting more tourists to the South Pacific island country.
Aside from the change of name and logo, the company will also be introducing a range of products and services such as new uniforms, new on-board meals and increased flights between Fiji and some of its biggest tourism markets, Fiji Airways' Acting Chief Executive Officer Aubrey Swift told news website Fijivillage.
A number of activities, including a mini parade, a fashion show and dance performances, were held in the capital of Suva to celebrate the launching of the national airline's new name.
Back in the 1960's, the carrier's name was Fiji Airways, which was later changed to Air Pacific. As time moved on, the company found that the brand Air Pacific was not working, not recognizable, not notable and did not help the airline sell its tickets. Following a research, the company decided to reintroduce the name Fiji Airways to reinforce its role as the national airline of Fiji.
