There were nearly 50,000 candidates registering the China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI) last year as the test witnessed a steady increase in number of registration these years, an official responsible for translation and interpretation test said in Beijing on Wednesday.
In a New Year reception, Guo Xiaoyong, Executive Vice President of China International Publishing Group (CIPG), Director of the Board of CATTI said, according to the criteria of Personnel Test Center affiliated to Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, CATTI has joined the block of medium-large profession qualification tests in China, which must have at least 50,000 registrations in one year.
More than 30,000 out of 250,000 candidates passed the exam since CATTI was launched in 2003.
From 2013, tests of all three levels (Level I, Level II and Level III) of English, French, Japanese and Arabic will be held in every year’s May, and in November the tests of Level II, Level III and simultaneous interpretation of English and the test of all three levels of Russian, German and Spanish will be held. CATTI will expand to cover more foreign languages and the relevant work is under way.
A series of commemorative events including the change of expert board, national examination affairs work conference and online essay contest will unfold to mark the 10th anniversary of CATTI.
