The Battle of Yan’an

In March 1947, the North West Field Army met head-on Kuomintang (KMT) troops to help the central committee withdraw safely. The Battle of Yan’an, directed by Chen Weiya, was a spectacular masterpiece based on this piece of history. Lan Huahua is the most popular Xintianyou folk song in the northern Shaanxi. Its melody, full of local characteristics, is ineffably sonorous and firm. The indigenous performance of Lan Huahua at the Yan’an Grand Opera House in its modern artistic form reflects the profound culture of the Loess plateau and the plain and indomitable temperament peculiar to the people of northern Shaanxi.
