Hollande faced multiple tests. Since early 2013 France sent troops to Mali, no matter in the Syria chemical weapon crisis or in the Iran Nuclear issue negotiations, France behaved even tougher than the US. However, within France, Hollande was in an awkward situation. Regardless of the scandals about him and his ex-girlfriend, the expulsion of a Gypsy girl alone had put him in a tight corner. And the large-scale protections against the government's tax increase plan were an even bigger headache for him.
