Jiang's report drew attention from Premier Wen Jiabao, who later dispatched special working groups to thoroughly investigate the situation in dairy industry. Jiang became a public figure himself in 2007 after doing interviews on China Central Television.
"Jiang had many enemies, powerful ones too. He revealed things many people in the industry so desperately wanted to hide," Wang Weimin, chairman of Xi'an Dairy Association and a friend of Jiang, told the Global Times.
Jiang's funeral was held at 9 am Wednesday morning in his home village. About 300 people attended the memorial service, in which Wang gave a eulogy. However, Wang bizarrely stated the reason of Jiang's death as being an "acute disease."
